The Duke of Bed Bug Dogs

Action Termite and Pest Control adds Fourth Dog to Bed Bug Control Team

August 31, 2010, Toms River, New Jersey: Action Termite and Pest Control is pleased to announce the arrival of Duke the Bed Bug Dog. Duke, a certified bed bug detection dog, was trained by the Master Trainer, Bill Whitstine of the Florida Canine Academy. Duke, a beautiful male Black Labrador mixed with American Boxer, was rescued from a Florida Animal Shelter and then trained to detect bed bugs.

Over the past few years, bed bug infestations have risen to levels unseen for more than 50 years. The north east of the United States has become a hot spot for infestation.

"Duke is a great addition to our bed bug control team. We are busy 6 days a week in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia detecting bed bugs" commented John Russell, General Manager of Action Termite and Pest Control. "Duke will be well utilized and receive ongoing training with his handler, Richie Wilbert"

Duke will join the hardworking bed bug dogs at Action that include, Sara, Rex, and Cassie. Sara, Rex, and Cassie have been called into action in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The addition of Duke to our bed bug division will improve our response time for our customers and give them extra flexibility in scheduling a bed bug dog detection inspection.

"Our dogs are accurate, proven, and trusted. They have enabled Action to be the best defense against bed bugs" commented John Russell. "The combination of quality and customer service makes us the team to turn to for Bed Bug Control."

"I am very excited to be working with Duke," commented Richie Wilbert, Dog Handler. "Duke is a very good dog, his behavioral training has been excellent, and his stamina is fantastic. I can tell he is eager to get to work and help out our customers."

Why use a bed bug dog? A trained professional inspector will only detect visible signs of bed bugs in a room with an accuracy rate of only about 30%. To find activity inside walls, baseboards, even under carpets, a room would have to otherwise be stripped down beyond the bare walls. Due to a dog’s keen sense of smell, our trained dog can detect bed bugs even inside walls - with over 90% accuracy, making his inspection a more thorough and accurate one. A more accurate detection means that if there is bed bug activity, our dog will be alerted to it and control measures can begin. An added benefit for our customers is that no preps are needed prior to the bed bug dog inspection.
